Q. What inspired you to tell your story?
A. All of the children that are going through the same or a similar struggle that I endured, and the fathers who are causing their pain.
Q. What audience are you trying to reach and Why?
A. I am reaching out to all Fathers and Sons; Fathers to encourage them to stand up and accept their responsibility to provide leadership to their sons, and to the sons who are left with the results that come from poor guidance and leadership.
Q. Why did you dedicate your book to your children and sister?
A. My book is dedicated to my children and sister, because they inspire me to be the best dad, brother and person that I can be.
Q. When did you realize that you wanted to write your book?
A. I decided to express my feelings with words, when I realized that I could not live with the pain that dwelled inside of me any longer.

Q. Did writing your book help you to overcome traumatic moments in your childhood?

A. Yes, it has encouraged me to move beyond those things that have hindered my life and has given me a foundation to move forward.
Q. What do you consider to be the ultimate blessing and Why?
A. I consider life to be the ultimate blessing. The ability to create life is the greatest gift that God has given us.  It is important that we as fathers understand that within the blessing there lies responsibility.
Q. Who would you say influenced your life in a positive manner?
A. Beverly D. Porter, Glenda V. Hammond, Mary E. McCall and Lorraine P. Liggins. Each of these women has always offered me unconditional love and guidance,
which allowed me to accept my circumstances, and gave me the courage to move beyond them.

Q. What advice if any do you have for a young child who is dealing with the loss of a parent?
A. Cherish the memories and reflect on all the positive things that came out of that relationship and allow that to move you forward.
Q. Do you feel your life would have turned out differently if your mom was alive?
A. Yes, my mother provided my sister and me with love and nurture.  She encouraged us to strive for those things that looked impossible, and with her we were always allowed to express ourselves.  It was expected.
Q. What response do you want to see as a result of writing the book?
A. I would like for this book to encourage all fathers to reevaluate their relationships between their sons and work on those areas that need improvement.
Q. Who will receive the first copy of your book and why?
A. My dad, it is not only my story that is being told, it is his as well.
Q. Do you have any regrets about writing the book?
A. No, absolutely not, I feel this is one of my greatest accomplishments. It has allowed me to focus on redirecting my anger and has made me a better person.
Q. How has God helped you in overcoming the self-defeat and self-hatred that you describe in your book?
A. God has given me the strength to never give up.  He has helped me to open up my heart and embrace love, which allowed me to defeat the self-hatred. I credit everything that I am today to God.
Q. What advice do you have for young fathers today?
A. My advice to young fathers is to use sound judgment when it comes to the planning of their child's future.  Accept the challenges that are ahead of you and endure the struggles.  Be Great Leaders and Role Models for their children.  SET A POSITIVE EXAMPLE!
Q. What does Oscar like to do when he is not writing?
A. I love to spend time with my family, sing, power-lift training, running and helping others.
Q. Will you continue to write?
A. Yes, I am working on a sequel to Beyond The Blessing, One Man’s Journey in Overcoming Self-Defeat and Self-Hatred titled Embracing The Blessing, Moving Forward One Step at a Time.
Q. Now that you have told your story, what more would you like to accomplish?
A. I would like to develop workshops and camps with a focus on building and strengthening relationships with fathers and sons.
